Venture Management, LLC is a private investment office based in Madison, Wisconsin. We invest in seed and growth-stage companies, and most of our investments are in businesses located in Wisconsin and/or investing in Wisconsin’s economy. We also are active mentors to many seed-stage and growth-stage companies.
Venture Management, LLC (“VMLLC”) has many active investments. Over the past few years, we have successfully exited many other investments, including positions in NeuWave Medical, Phoenix, TomoTherapy, Promega, Gander Mountain, Jellyfish.com, Ultravisual, Berbee Information Systems, TermSync, Celleration, and nPoint. Our active positions include investments in advanced manufacturing, internet services and sales, medical devices, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals.
In addition to the direct investments that we currently manage, we are also limited partners in Venture Investors (“VI“) Funds IV & V, one of Wisconsin’s premier venture capital funds, and are limited partners in gener8tor Funds II, III, IV, & VII, a nationally recognized, top-15 accelerator program located in Madison and Milwaukee.
Our Team
Terence F. Kelly
Terry Kelly founded VMLLC in 1994, and is president of the organization. Terry has been active in the Wisconsin angel and venture investment community for more than twenty years. He has founded five technology businesses, operated others, and was elected an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and awarded Accelerate Madison’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He holds more than a dozen U.S. Patents.
Terry has directed VMLLC co-investments alongside area venture capital funds, including VI, Baird Venture Partners, and NEW Capital Fund, LP. Terry is an active member in the state angel community, and VMLLC is a member of Wisconsin Investment Partners. VMLLC has also invested alongside other angel and super-angel investors making investments in Wisconsin, including Knox, DaneVest, Chippewa Valley Angel Network, and the Wisconsin Super Angel Fund.
Terry currently serves as a board observer for FluGen, Inc., and serves as a co-board observer for Madison Vaccines Inc. He previously founded Weather Central, Inc. and MyWeather, LLC, and operated these market leading businesses for nearly 40 years until the businesses were sold to The Weather Channel in August, 2012. Terry has previous technology management experience in the public sector, having managed three divisions of a Fortune 1000 technology company.
Matthew T. Kelly
Matt Kelly joined VMLLC in 2012 as Vice President. Matt is active in the angel and venture capital communities. In addition to his role at Venture Management, Matt is a co-manager of Wisconsin Investment Partners–the most active and largest Wisconsin-based angel group. He also mentors gener8tor companies, and has served as a judge for the Governor’s Business Plan competition. Matt currently serves as a board member for Immuto Scientific, Inc. and as a co-board observer for Madison Vaccines Inc..
Matt brings experience as a major project finance attorney at Milbank, LLP, one of the world’s leading law firms. He graduated cum laude from American University, Washington College of Law, where he served as Senior Note & Comment Editor on the Social Policy law journal. In addition to his law degree, Matt has a B.S. in Biochemistry and History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Matt is an inactive member of the Wisconsin bar.
Debra McCue
Deb McCue acts as Controller for VMLLC. Deb has more than 15 years of experience with us.
